Synopsis

“Harraga” tells the story of Khalid, a young waiter at the Café de Paris in Tangier, who dreams of other worlds. He sets out in search of it hand in hand with a friend who lives in Granada, and his route becomes a current of murky waters against which it will be impossible for him to swim. From the darkness, the story of the descent into the abyss of a young man from Tangier caught between tradition and his new life, and forced to choose between two paths, in a labyrinth in which neither of them leads to the paradise of his dreams. Between comings and goings, drug trafficking and human beings, the writer tells us in this detective novel about political corruption the drama that all those who want to get out of extreme poverty and pursue their European dream are forced to live. For his novel “Harraga”, Antonio Lozano won the 2003 Novelpol Prize for the best detective novel in Spain.
