Synopsis

Two anonymous hired criminals cross La Mancha one morning in mid-autumn. In the trunk of the car they carry a macabre cargo: the body of the Moroccan immigrant who was murdered the day before. It is not, however, an exceptional trip. Since April they have already made twenty-nine times the same route. And while they travel, they talk and talk. "I don't think I kill them," says one of the criminals to calm the growing anxiety of the other, "I think they die." Is killing the same as dying? Can one avoid asking these questions? Do they lead to anything? And, finally, what can they mean in the context of the continuing outbreaks of racism and xenophobia in Europe? Drowned is a journey through the physical night and the moral night. An exclusively dialogued novel, its two protagonists will never manage to escape the feeling that what really matters to them is not what they say, but what they don't want, don't know or can't say to each other. Not only the answers, even the questions can be lies.
