Giacomo Casanova and his time

Studies and research projects on Giacomo Casanova's life and works

Giacomo Casanova’s (Venice 1725 - Dux/Duchcov 1798) legend often eclipsed his multifaceted talents as scholar, historian, philosopher and man of letters in the broadest sense of this term in the 18th century. Casanova’s reputation as a libertine or serial seducer overshadowed his endeavors as an aspiring priest, army officer, diplomat, gambler, spy and, above all, writer and novelist.

This website collects the results of projects and research conducted by an international network of scholars and specialists on Casanova’s life and work over the past 30 years and more.
