Database

DIETALY database is the outcome of extensive research into English-language tourism communication and promotional materials produced by Italian institutions between the 1920s and 1950s. Launched in autumn 2022, the project began with research at the ENIT SpA (The Italian National Tourist Board) library, made possible through a cooperation agreement. It has since expanded to include materials from public, national, and international libraries, as well as private collections and archives.
The database currently displays the metadata of over 600 tourism-related texts, including brochures, magazines, and other materials. It provides a detailed and well-founded index of metadata relating to the materials identified during the research, indicating the location of the original documents and their indexing according to over 30 criteria. This structure will support both quantitative and qualitative research, allowing for customisable exploration.
Now accessible to the academic community, students and anyone interested in research in the tourism sector, the DIETALY database allows users to locate original promotional material of specific interest through the use of cross-referenced metadata. The material located at the ENIT SpA library has been transferred in digital form by the Ca' Foscari research unit to a platform owned by ENIT SpA.
