Database

DIETALY database is the outcome of extensive research into English-language tourism communication and promotional materials produced by Italian institutions between the 1920s and 1950s. Launched in autumn 2022, the project began with research at the ENIT (Ente Nazionale Italiano del Turismo) library, made possible through a cooperation agreement. It has since expanded to include materials from public, national, and international libraries, as well as private collections and archives.
The database currently holds over 600 tourism-related texts, including leaflets, brochures, and magazines. It provides a detailed and well-founded index of the collected materials, indicating the location of the original documents and categorises the texts according to more than 30 criteria, such as date and language of publication, genre, translator (where mentioned), promotional aspects, visual elements and geographical and thematic focus. This structure will support both quantitative and qualitative research, allowing for customisable exploration.
Now accessible to the academic community, students and anyone interested in tourism research, DIETALY database continues to expand. As new materials emerge, its content will be regularly enriched and updated.
